The Beat Generation is a term used to describe both a group of American writers who came to prominence in the late 1950s and early 1960s, and the cultural phenomena that they wrote about and inspired (later sometimes called beatniks though this is considered by many to be a pejorative term)।
The major works of Beat writing are Allen Ginsberg's Howl (1956), William S. Burroughs's Naked Lunch (1959) and Jack Kerouac's On the Road (1957)[1]. Both Howl and Naked Lunch were the focus of obscenity trials that ultimately helped to liberalize what could be published in the United States. On the Road transformed Kerouac's friend Neal Cassady into a youth-culture hero. The members of the Beat Generation quickly developed a reputation as new bohemian hedonists, who celebrated non-conformity and spontaneous creativity.
The adjective beat had the connotations of "tired" or "down and out," but as used by Kerouac it included the paradoxical connotations of "upbeat", "beatific", and the musical association of being "on the beat." The Beat writers emphasized a visceral engagement in worldly experiences combined with a yearning for deeper spiritual understanding (many of them developed a strong interest in Buddhism).
Echoes of the Beat Generation can be seen throughout many other modern subcultures (e.g. "hippies," "punks," etc). See the "Influences on Western Culture" section below.

Beats are usually composed by a producer, though some artists compose their own beats. They are essentially the framework for a song, because they dictate the tempo, the mood, and the progression of the song.
Composing a hip hop beat was traditionally done with a turntable and later evolved to the use of drum machines and samplers. Many artists will use another artist's beat to create their own song. The resultant song is usually similar to the original, and frequently the chorus will remain mostly intact.
Samplers took on different forms, such as Music Production Centers and computer programs. Programs such as Reason, Cubase, and Fruity Loops are common in the underground hip hop industry - a lot of which is made in small, low-budget studios.
Over the years many new sounds have been experimented with. In the early 90s, Dr. Dre was one of the first to put a melody in a hip hop beat, and this influenced many producers coming after him. Currently producers such as 9th Wonder and Kanye West tend to sample old soul songs, and speed the voices up, and add them to a simple drum beat.
In rapcore, beats are generally done with live drums and sometimes guitars as well.
